Our beliefs are programmed in our subconscious minds. In other words, life is a stage, and the show of your life is run mostly by your habit making and the mechanical mind. If you stop for a second and reflect, you will notice that up to 99% of your day-to-day life is a habit pattern that keeps playing itself on autopilot.

These are five of the rules that your mind holds on to:

1. Keeping you alive

Your mind is programmed and wired for survival. That is its number one job. Even though it has many other rules which it uses to act upon, and even if some could be viewed as limiting beliefs, its top priority is to keep you alive. So, it will do all it can to stop you from what it perceives as hurtful and harmful, due to previous experiences. Hence the fight or flight response, which gives you that boost of energy to survive. The response is triggered by the release of hormones that prepare your body to either stay and deal with a threat or to run away to safety.

2. Controlling your decisions

The mind does what it thinks you want it to. By telling and controlling your mind, you can decide what it is that you want to do and then your mind will do it for you.

One of my clients told me, just 10 days after her 90 minutes (RTT) Rapid Transformational Therapy session, that they were now able to identify quickly when they were about to go into a self-pity mode, pull themselves out and look at the bigger picture in a matter of seconds. Just by digging deep down to the root cause, uncovering the belief that was holding them back from progressing and changing the understanding around it. My client is now able to continue to move forward and step into their power.

Our mind is amazing, and we have all the answers within. We just need to identify our subconscious belief, so we can stop that inner critical voice that keeps telling us  “You are not good enough, you are not loveable, you are not worthy”. Then just create a new belief by clearly telling your mind what it is you want it to do for you.

3. Avoiding the unfamiliar

The third rule is that your mind will always drive you towards what is familiar to it, rather than what is unfamiliar. Your mind is extremely comfortable with the way it runs because that’s all it knows. Therefore, it will always try to avoid what is unfamiliar and run back to what is familiar.

If we look at a child, they will not eat what they do not know, or they will insist on having the same spoon or plate. That is because their primitive mind at that age only understands what is familiar to them and what makes them safe.

And even after 20 years, people might still find themselves liking the same type of people that remind them of their upbringing. Or they may go back to the same job day in and day out, even if they don’t like what they are doing. But you can change that by putting your beliefs first and challenging your energy to whatever battle you want to face. Start thinking every day about what you have been dreaming about and set yourself daily tasks to get it.  Is that a new career journey? Then channel your mind towards it.

4. Holding conflicting beliefs

The mind cannot hold conflicting beliefs. If you want money but think instead that it is not available to you, or that you are not worthy of it due to childhood beliefs, then this could be a problem. This will create a conflict between your mind and your vibration, which will start making you believe that it is not available to you because you’re not worthy.

I recommend reading the book Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. In this book, Napoleon explains that it is all in your mind and that, when you set your goals, regardless of how big they are, you need to start by taking baby steps. Any single step towards the goal matters, even if you’re not sure if it is the right progression. This way you are creating your new reality. You are making your mind believe that you intend to take this goal seriously and that you are willing to commit.

5. The Inner Critic

The final rule I will share is that your mind doesn’t really know the difference between something that is real or something you are imagining. That is why creative visualisation is a powerful way to help people move towards their goals, heal, mend relationships and much more. It can help you feel more positive about your life.  Your brain has an inner critic that feeds you lies, such as “You will never find love.”, “You are a loser.” or “You’re like your mum/dad.”

You can defeat that inner critic by saying instead to yourself words like “I am loveable”, “I am amazing” or “I am successful”. Even if you don’t believe in these statements yet, your mind will believe you. You can create your realities with these things in mind:

  • Hold what’s dear to you to re-energise.
  • Listen to yourself and observe what you do, then rearrange it.
  • How you live and what opportunities show up are related to your thoughts, ideas and energy. The way you think and the way you view and perceive things is what is called your mental attitude. This also creates your beliefs about your reality and yourself.

The importance of core values

Core values highlight what you stand for, which makes them part of who you are. They get to represent your unique, individual essence but, as you develop more awareness, they can also change. Values can be as unique as your fingerprint. Your values can act like a compass that keeps you headed in your desired direction. That is why goals that flow from values are more meaningful. They are also more likely to be achieved than those picked at random or those chosen because you believe you should be focusing on them.

I use 4 steps to realign with my core values, which I invite you to try:

1. Explore

Can you think of a time or a moment where you felt totally yourself? A time where you were in your element, and everything just felt aligned? A time you felt happy and fulfilled? Write it down.

2. Extract

Now think about what kind of values you were expressing and feeling at that moment. What was important about this moment that made you feel so special? Write it down.

3. Choose

Pick one, three or even five values that you have identified as most important to you. Write them down.

4. Define

Now, write about what your chosen values mean to you. Understand that it is okay if it is different from someone else’s. Different words mean different things to different people. It is important to define what your values mean to YOU in your life.

To conclude, what we need to do is to keep in mind and make use of the few rules that our mind needs. Then choose your goals and core values, all of which your amazing mind will use as the days, weeks, and years pass by. One day you will realise you were only the memories that shaped your beliefs and experiences.

You can do it!
